Tooth decay can be a cause of sensitivity - but not the only one. Erosion of the teeth from grinding or acidic environment can also remove enamel from teh tooth surface thus bringing the nerve closer to the outside. Also exposed root surfaces cause sensitivity - try tooth moouse.

A lot of people chew on pencils and pens without thinking about it. This can cause your gums to become bruised and if you are drinking something hot or cold it can bother them a lot. So try and see if this is something you are doing and if it is that's an easy fix.

One of the biggest reasons is that you may be chewing on pens and pencils. This causes the gums to bruise and then your teeth become sensitive.
