Why is my lab losing hair on his chest and armpits?

Sometimes Labs as well as sharpei dogs get parasitic infections because they are more predisposed because of genetics. The dog may need to go get several "dips" before the skin is healed. You do have to watch out for recurrence as these animals are susceptible to the infection coming back

I would think it would be an allergy. The chest and armpit are very sensitive areas, they are very close to the skin and would not have as much fur to protect it. Is he loosing hair elsewhere, it would seen more unnoticable because the hair is thicker. Ask your vet to check for allergies.

Generally if a dog loses hair in those areas it means he is licking it for one reason or another. Generally if they have fleas or skin irritation they will continuously lick and use their front teeth to chew the area. First thing i would do is check for fleas and work from there

There are many factors that will do the hair loss. Some kind allergy may cause to lose hair. The symptom of allergies is itching of skin, coughing, sneezing and wheezing. Contact allergy may cause the itching resulting hair losing. Another one is flea allergy. The inhalant allergy and Seasonal allergy also cause hair losing.
