Why is my goldfish lying on its side?

There are many reasons this could be happening. The most likely reason is a swim bladder infection. Fish will, however, sometimes do this if they have an itch on one side. This could be due to finrot or a bacterial problem. If the fish is old, it might just be dying.

A gold fish's swim bladder fails when it's bowl is too small which causes toxins to build up and the fish has a hard time gettin oxygen.

Goldfish do not ordinarily lie on their sides. If they do so, it means that they are so weak that they cannot stay upright. This could be due to a variety of problems, including disease, trauma, or just old age. However, once a goldfish starts consistently lying on its side, it almost always dies soon thereafter.

There could be a number of reasons why your goldfish is lying on its side. One being that it is dead and if it is not dead yet.... then maybe there is not enough oxygen in the fish bowl or fish tank. Another thing you might want to check is the ph levels.

I think the fish did it once and thought, 'This is cool... ' and kept doing it.
