Use the Internet to research the breed so that you are sure this dog is the right one for your family. Then start talking to other Maremma owners at dog shows or on Internet forums to ensure that you find a reputable breeder. Backyard breeders are rampant and not good for the overall breed. And, don't forget breed rescue groups!

This Italian flock guardian breed is not common in the US so seeking out the breed club or a livestock guardian association should help you find a good breeder.

I suggest you go to the American Kennel Club site, they list reputable breeders. Don't EVER buy a dog from a breeder you haven't met, Always visit a kennel personally.
