If this is the first time away from home, then yes a child will most likely cry. Making goodbyes as quick as possible usually lessens the crying.

It depends on the child, some are keen to go to school, following their siblings, others will be apprehensive and may cry or not want to go. Talk to your child in the weeks before that first day, so they get used to the idea.
