Proper etiquette for a thank you note after a funeral, should be very simple. It should read, thank you for thinking of us in our time of grief by sending flowers, or making a donation or for sending food, etc. We really appreciate your kind thoughts.

Write the note from your heart. Thank the person for the flowers or whatever it is that they did and for being there for you during this difficult time.

As with all other thank-you notes, they should be sent promptly. Simply thank the person for being there for you at a difficult time.

I've never heard of a requirement to send thank you notes after a funeral. People are not expecting much from you. The reason they help is to support you. But if someone did something that touched you why not write them a note lettig them know and thanking them.
