If the kids are very young, they will pick up counting by hearing it often. Always count things in Spanish: the stairs, toys, games, eyes/ears/fingers/toes. Parallel the Spanish numbers with their English mates (or whatever language you speak at home). It's easy to learn to count but means nothing in terms of knowing or understanding the language.

Check out kids programs, especially Sesame Street, on TV or at the library. There are many, many episodes dedicated to this topic.

Learning to count to ten in Spanish for kids is fun because you can group the words with rhymes: uno, dos, tres; then; cuatro, cinco, seis: and the last four; siete, ocho, nueve, diez. Also use some of their favorite toys to form groups to associate with the numbers.

Children pick up languages very quickly if you simply speak it to them. Start counting with your children in Spanish whenever you count. Make it a game. Find a song or make up your own. They will learn it very fast.
