I'm stuck with the task of trimming horns on the baby goats. I feel the head daily for when the nubs start and then I have to wait to find what partial horn growth. Trim about 1 inch at a time avoiding hitting the blood veins. It takes time.

Partial horn growth is called a scur. They can be trimmed using a gigli saw or a bone cutting saw. Your goats must not be infants if they have enough horn to trim off.  add a comment

What you do is dependent on whether or not you are trimming the horns on a kid or on a full grown goat. For kids it is recommended that they get disbudded as soon as possible because doing a full removal of horns on the adults is messy AND painful!!

Purchase a commercial electric disbudding iron which is available at most farmer stores or farm depots. It is recommended that you then consult with a veterinarian regarding the best way to iron down the horns for each specific goat that you have. Goat horn trimming is a two man project.
