A gossip chair was mostly around in the sixteenth century in Europe. They are abnormally shaped sitting chairs that ladies would sit in while they had audiences with friends to talk about the latest gossip. The chairs we widened out at the sides to accompany the large gowns of the time so the women would feel comfortable.

It is a chair design from the sixteenth century, specifically meant for women with wide skirts, the frontside of the seat is much wider than the back.
