What happens to the aluminum collected at recycling centers?

I know it is compacted, but what happens after that?

It is sent off to be melted down and made into new aluminum products. Recycling takes about 5% of the energy it takes to produce new aluminum.

Most aluminum is melted down, then used to make more aluminum products - including beer cans, soda cans, and aircraft parts.

The aluminum is then taken to foundries, plants where they melt either the ore (rock containing the metal) or the processed metal. They melt down the cans to a liquid molten metal. That liquid form is then cast into ingots for processing into new aluminum cans, aluminum siding, or aluminum framing such as in aircraft.
