There aren't many signs of pancreatic cancer. Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) may appear, and there may be pain, weight loss, and nausea.

It usually cannot be detected until it is quite developed and even metastasized. When symptoms do manifest themselves, they include significant weight loss, jaundice, a changed stool, and stomach pain and back pain that is often perceived as a dull persistent ache. Bloating, nausea, and diarrhea can also occur. More generally, someone may have appetite loss and increased blood sugar.

Cancer of the pancreas is known to be a "silent killer" because early pancreatic cancer often does not cause symptoms, and the later symptoms are usually non-specific and varied. Therefore, pancreatic cancer is often not diagnosed until it is advanced. As the cancer grows and spreads, pain in the upper updomen can spread to the back.
