Find out the vehicle's VIN number and get a vehicle history report.sellers should be able to provide the VIN number from the insurance or car title or from under the windshield. Find out current market value range for the car.

Always ask the seller for records for previous repairs. Do not buy from a seller who will not allow an independent mechanic check over the vehicle.

First you should make sure of your safety if your going to meet the person or via make sure its in a public place. Secondly make sure you check the vin number that the car is not stolen Thirdly make sure the owner have the title. Lastly take a test drive then bargin.

The main things would look for would be the performance which a private mechanic can check for you and the interior of the car.
