A ruptured TPLO in dogs can sometimes be treated without surgery. This depends greatly on the extent of the rupture and the dog size. If the tear's mild to moderate in a small dog various levels of physical therapy and medications may work. A large dog, due to weight, will most likely need the surgery because of high re-injury risks.

No, it all depends on the type of tear your dog has suffered. Full Dog Cruciate Tears will need surgery because the dog will not be able to put wait on the leg. However, Partial Dog Cruciate Tears may only require you to take a conservative approach, ie: using braces and physiotherapy.

It is 90% effective in most dogs. I am not sure if it is the only option, because that would depend on your dogs injury, please consult your veterinarian.

You should consult with your vet and experts in that field. There are usually other option than surgery, bu they might not be quite as effective as surgery would be.
