Nystatin is often recommended for external ear infections caused by yeast. It is sometimes combined with other topical medications to control chronic ear infections in dogs. Nystatin works by destroying the cell membrane of the yeast organism and when combined with other medications that include an antibiotic or a topical pain killer it can bring quick relief to the dog.

As this is prescribed for humans, I say NO, unless your vet says otherwise. If you have a dog like a poodle, with hair that holds moisture in, pluck or groom assiduously. 1:1 white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or just a few drops of white vinegar is much more efficacious.

Nystatin isn't usually used for ear yeast infections in dogs. You can start by using diluted vinegar with water to treat the yeast infection. This will remove dirt and other debris and help make the ear healthy again. If that doesn't work you can try Zymox or Chlorhexidine 4% with clotramizole ointment.

If your dog does not have sensitivities or is allergic to Nystatin, it is generally safe to use, and is normally prescribed as a drug called Panalog®
