I have seen lately that every time there is a big controversy that magazines sell more as well as newspapers.

Controversy can sell provided it is the right type of controversy. For news sales almost any controversy is good news. For different types businesses scandals and the like can be very bad for business.

I think there is a lot of truth in that because people always love drama. It is human nature. If there is drama it sells.
