When properly installed it is pretty safe. The only dangerous thing about it is that the tiny particles can cause lung and skin irritation when not using safety equipment.
I would think it would be safe to have it in your house. The only thing I would not do with it is rub my face and hands all over it when it is exposed. I promise you it will itch like crazy. They wouldn't use something that wasn't safe
