Guitar Strings are relatively thin. The y can be used on lap steels, sitars, and banjo but this is not recommended

They usually vary from .008 to .058 of an inch. It depends on the type of guitar, genre of music, and personal preference of the musician. They can also be used as ties, garrotes, belts, hangers, and any number of other things. Use your imagination! I often keep used and broken strings for quick fixes.
