The city of Fort Wayne, Indiana, no longer has any military installations that are labeled as "forts," although there is an Air National Guard unit stationed there. The namesake of Fort Wayne was a fort established In 1794 by General Anthony Wayne and named after him; it was established to deter Native American attacks on white settlers in the region.
