If you are the policyholder, you may file a claim if your insurer provided you physical damages coverages when you initially insured your vehicle. If you are a liability claimant, then you may make a claim but be prepared to accept a settlement offer below market value for your car.

There are two kinds of insurance claims: first party and third party. Third party claims are liability claims and you may file these. On first party claims, you are the policyholder and may make a claim if your insurer has agreed to cover your vehicle for physical damages coverage.
