Small or minauture representatives of the Chihuahua breed are not recognized by the AKC. The average weight of a tea cup chihuahua is 2-4 pounds where as an average chihuahua is 4-7lb. A chihuahua must not exceed 6 pounds to be recognized by the AKC, though on average the Chihuahua as a house pet weighs up to 10.

At first they were not recognized due to the breeding process, but now are accepted. Chihuahuas are very smart dogs and need alot of patients, they will do almost anything that they are trained for. This type of dog eats very little, and has problems with dog diabetes and seizures due to their size.
