Are CFLs really better than regular light bulbs?

I'm thinking about making the switch. Should I?

In situations where the bulbs are turned on/ off frequently, CFLs fail quickly.

they also take time to warm up when you first turn them on... but if you can get over this mild annoyance, they really are great.  add a comment

Disadvantages of CFLs include cost and the mercury. The mercury is so hazardous that if a bulb is broken, pregnant women and children under 5 are supposed to leave the room. You have to wear protective gloves and mask during clean up. If you can handle clean up or there is no risk of them being broken, go get them.

CFLs are far better than regular light bulbs. They last seven times as long as regular light bulbs. I switched about a year ago and have seen the difference in my bill. So far it has been about $5 a month in savings.

You should make the switch from regular light bulbs to CFLs. They are superior. Regular light bulbs burn out regularly. I've had my CFLs in all of my light sockets for over a year now and haven't had to change them once.

not only that... compact fluorescents use WAY less electricity than incandescent bulbs!  add a comment
