With what can I coat sterling silver to prevent tarnish?

I have a display tea set, make of sterling silver. I get tired of cleaning it, and would like to coat it to prevent tarnish.

There is a product called Zero Tarnish, it is what they use in museums to keep display items from tarnishing. You can buy it online. The only thing I would then advise against is using your tea set for food, but you said it was for display purposes so you should be fine.

If you are displaying for short periods of time, you can wrap it in a tarnish free cloth and put it in ziplocks with a piece of chalk.

My grandmother had always put a light coating of vegetable oil on her silver after she had polished/cleaned it after dinner.

There are products sold on the market that claim to prevent tarnish. However, there are safer methods you could try. It is thought that routinely applying a mixture of baking soda and water to silver pieces will aide in the prevention of tarnish. Be sure to use a soft cloth for the application.
