Urinary tract problems in cats can be caused by several things. An infection, crystal blockages, or diabetes could cause urinary problems. The vet needs to determine the cause in order to decide how to treat it. Sometimes changing the diet can prevent problems. Glucosamine will not help with urinary problems in cats. It is used for joints and arthritis.

Giving a cat Glucosamine will not help with urinary tract problems. Rather, it is important to feed the cat a low ash diet and make sure the cat stays well hydrated.

It is thought that taking Glucosamine (Cosequin) is beneficial to cats prone to urinary tract problems. Chemicals in glucosamine are the same as chemicals that line the bladder wall. By giving cats glucosamine, it is thought that the bladder lining will stay healthier and help prevent inflammation. It can take several weeks to see improvement.

Depending on the cause of the uninary tract problem it may. There is little evidance supporting or dismissing the treatment. no matter what type of thearpy you end up going with, it is important that you reduce as many stress factors on the cat as possible. Along witn keeping the cat inside so you can monitor progress.

Glucosamine is primarily used for treating arthritis in cats. It has not been shown to have an affect on other conditions, such as urinary tract problems.
