Will an abscess in my tooth cause swelling?

Yes, an abcess can cause swelling, especially if it becomes infected. You will need antibiotics to resolve the infection and reduce further damage to your tooth. Make a dentist's appointment right away.

An abscess normally does cause swelling. The reason that there is swelling is because an abscess is a infection in the tooth and the gum swells from the infection. The swelling is relieved when a dentist prescribes antibiotics for the abscess and then performs a root canal to eliminate the cause of the abscess.

Abcesses can cause swelling. It depends if the infection is draining in some way. If it is draining, you may not experience swelling. But beware, just because there isn't swelling now doesn't mean that it won't swell at any given time. You need to see a dentist to possibly get some antibiotics and decide on a treatment for the tooth.
