Some dogs are very protective of their environment and feel the necessity to guard over their owners at all times including nights. There are certain breeds that tend to do this more than others. Pit bulls are like this as are mixes of these. You won't know if your dog does this until you observe it.

Your dog might be restless especially if he has not gone to the bathroom. If he's overexcited and panting he could need a walk to burn off some energy or some water. If it is none of these things it is probable that it could be something more serious and a visit to the vet could clear things up.

If your dog will not sleep only at night, while you yourself are sleeping,it most likely is seperation anxiety. It can occur at any time in a pets life. Try putting a worn shirt or sheet in your dogs sleeping space from you.

Probably because he or she is so hyper. Just go out side and run around with him for a few hours. He will fall asleep.

The dog might be sick or stressed (a vet visit would be a good idea). In addition, some dogs sleep better when they are put in a crate at night.
