Why won't my ceiling fan turn at a faster speed?

It's like the engine is not running right.

Either the motor has burned out, most likely if it is making a buzzing noise, or the switch has stopped working and wont change the speed.

A ceiling fan has a load bearing and a support bearing. If any one of it gets jammed,it affects the rpm. But if one bearing gets damaged, it is always better to change both of them. Check the capacitor and the coil. This is actually a workshop procedure, Do not attempt to do it by yourself.

Your ceiling fan may be old and therefore it is no longer running at it's optimum level. The other thing you could do is to dust it off completely. Dust may have accumulated around the engine area and thus causing it it stop running property.

I think the problem is with the motor which is inside the ceiling fan. The speed of a ceiling fan is determined by the efficiency of the motor.
