Before charging an HVAC system with coolant medium it should be evacuated. This removes air, debris and moisture from the system. If you do not evacuate the system it will be placed under stress, and function at lower efficiency as the coolant medium will be displaced by air or moisture. This can cause premature system failure and increased operating expenses.

The system must be completely sealed and a vacuum pump attached for several hours. The vacuum must exceed 1000 microns and hold that reading for 4 hours to comply with EPA regulations. This assures there are no leaks and the system is dry. This improves performance, alleviates failures, and improves the reliability of the system.
