Why is pseudophedrine dangerous when you're pregnant?

Per the American College of Obstatricians and Gynecologist the vasoconstrictor ingredients of pseudophedrine can cause gastroschisis if taken during the first trimester of pregnancy. The chances of this defect increases with the use of acetaminophin. Once past the first trimester chances of this defect decreases but as always you should consult your doctor about over the counter medications.

As I've heard and investigated, I believe its dangerous for pregnant women mostly because of all its adverse effects such as: sleeplessness, nervousness, excitability, dizziness and anxiety, tachycardia and/or palpitations....

Pseudeophedrine can be dangerous in pregnancy because it will raise your heart rate and your blood pressure. Check with your doctor for alternatives.

Pseudophendrine has been shown to cause birth defects, especially when women have taken the drug during their first to early second trimester.
