Stuttering is not uncommon in toddlers. They sometimes develop it as a way to maintain control of the conversation while they find the word they are looking for. They're vocabularies are limited and they sometimes struggle to get their thoughts out. Be patient. It will likely pass.

Some people believe that stuttering is caused by genetic factors. Others believe that it is a sign of underlying psychological issues. Others believe that it is a briefly encountered language barrier that, when the child becomes anxious, becomes more obvious. Be calm and supportive, and encourage the child to learn to speak slowly. With help, the child can outgrow stuttering.

I would go to a speech pathologist, as this is a potentially life threatening thing, but if treated, can be helped. But don't wait, because the longer it goes on, the tougher it will be to lose it.

There are different kinds of stuttering. The first kind puts speech and language abilities out of sync with verbal demands. The child usually outgrows it. Sometimes stuttering is hereditary.

There is a possibility that she will outgrow this, but it could be a larger speech issue. Talk to your doctor first, then maybe someone at your local school. They can help.
