Depends on exactly what your pug is doing that is strange. Is the room completely dark? He or she might need a night light. How old is the pug? Young dogs often are uncomfortable when alone at night as they aren't mature enough to understand that being alone is ok. Try making a bed for your dog by your bed.

Is this a new behavior or an existing one? If it's new, you need to take a look at your nightly routine. Pugs can be very sensitive to changes in their environment. Is there a new neighbor, has your work schedule changed? Also, has age decreased the dogs night vision?

I can't say w/out more info. He may be afraid. He may need his own safe kennel to sleep in at night, or he may feel more protective of you.

Something may have changed. Your neighbor may be letting their dog out, or you may have skunks or raccoons skulking about. You may have a prowler. Puggy may be trying to tell you something, listen to his good instincts and check for changes or security issues.

Dogs often experience separation anxiety at night if they are crated or asked to sleep in another room. Providing the dog a safe warm space of his own that he can feel comfortable in is key. Never use the crate as punishment. His crate should be a safe haven for him.

Maybe your pug is going blind and during the night when there's less light it becomes scared. It would be best to have he/she evaluated by your vet to see what's truly wrong.

Make sure there aren't any new animals around outside and if there is you need to take the dog out with you there so it can check it out that way you will be right there for emotional support if whatever it is scares the dog.
