Young puppy's will whine in the begining due to the fact that they have just been separated from their mother's and siblings. A new environment also takes part in the reaction of the puppy. It will take time for the puppy to become accustom to your home.

Your puppy may be whining because it wants attention or to play, because it's hungry, or because it needs to be let outside.

Labs are very social. They NEED to be with you and your family. The puppy was taken away from its siblings so it is lonely, especially at night. Put the puppy's crate in your bedroom to help him adjust. Even better if you could let the puppy sleep on your bed.

Nothing wrong with your puppy but you should realise that the puppy is also an infant expecting cuddling.Usully babbies cry for food or to get close to the mother. For your dog I think ,it needs some free play and affectinate touch especially from KIDS in your family. They love to play with small children may be a reason.
