Sometimes cats will get a fungal infection commonly called ringworm. They may not show traditional scabby ringworm lesions, but rather lose the hair on the back and the tail from chewing these areas. The best thing would be to have your vet test her for ringworm and recommend a treatment. Ringworm can be stubborn to clear up.

There are a lot of reasons that a cat may lose hair on its tail. You should contact your veterinarian as testing may be necessary to determine the cause.

This is a pretty common issue with cats, if your cat suffers from no other health issues this could be a simple allergy or dry skin. Losing hair could also be a symptom of stress or changes in it's environment. It is best to take your cat to the vet for a check up.

Mites are the biggest cause of hair loss in the tail area. If you notice your cat is scratching that's another indicator. Take him to the Vet.
