Water condenses on the outside of the coils and after a while this water drips off of the coils and drains out the back. This is perfectly normal and expected.

The dripping sound from an air conditioner is perfectly normal. It is caused by the condensation of water around the coils that are cooling the air. As the water condenses, it drips off of the coils and drains outside of the air conditioner.
