Why is a hurricane lamp called that?

Hurricane lamps have a tall chimney that shelters the light-source from the wind. When the light-source is a candle, the chimney keeps the light from blowing out in a storm.

their are lamps that were designed to be able to be used only with the oil that is already inside them. Their are also designed with a cover that is resistant to be stuffed out by high winds and are generally safe in environments that are rough and unstable as a hurricane may cause
