Jaw popping is most commonly caused by something called TMJ. alot of people have this and it is not generally a cause for concern unless the popping causes you pain. If your jaw is painful you can talk to your doctor and/or a chiropractor to adjust your jaw to prevent the pain slightly.

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) makes noise as its various mechanical components move against each other. TMJ is located immediately in front of the ears, which makes its noise particularly conspicuous. Joint noise alone is seldom a concern, but it may be a harbinger of functional joint dysfunction-- limitation of joint range of motion, locking of the jaw, or joint pain

Your jaw pops because you probably have TMJ. You should consult a dentist about this. When your jaw pops it usually means that the disc inside the jaw joint is unstable. If there is pain with the popping it is natures way of saying something is wrong. You can also develop headaches from jaw popping.
