Why does my GMC truck have the air bag light on?

It stays on all the time. The air bag has never been used.

I had the same problem and it turned out it was just the fuse. I've since found out that 99% of the time it's just the fuse, on any vehicle.

The airbag unit probably needs to be checked. The airbag light being on is a common problem with GMC vehicle owners, and it probably means there is an electronics problem with the airbag. Have the airbag checked out. The people at the shop should be able to read your computer diagnosis on your vehicle.

There is some type of fault within the air bag system. You will need someone with a scan tool to check for codes in order for it to be diagnosed. As long as this light is on, your air bags will not deploy if needed.

There are a few possibilities. The first possibility is that your truck's airbags may have been deployed in the past and/or taken out. Another problem could be a fuse or an electrical problem. The light itself means either your airbags already deployed, or they may not deploy when they need to if they should have to.

I would check in your owners manual to see what it says about the light being on. It probably needs to be serviced. Over time the airbags will have to have service work done, even it they have not been used.

It is on because there is a fault in the system. It could be the main air bags or the seat belts that is causing it to throw a code. It is definitly something you need to address as it is safety related.

It is probably a sensor. You can check out your sensors and make sure those are good and if they are you can also check your fuses. Make sure you also have the passenger air bag on if equipped because that will trigger the light to come on in most GMC's

This could either by a sign that there is an issue with the airbag system or just a light indicating that the airbag system is armed. To know for sure you should contact your local Chevrolet dealer. They should be able to tell you the reason it is on.
