Most commonly they've drank too much too fast. Try making water available at all times to prevent this, or less water at any one time.

If your dog is hot and drinks the water to fast or has to much water intake this will cause them to throw up after drinking.

He probably is drinking really cold water too quickly, probably after coming in from outside. If he's hot and the water is too cold, it will make him sick.
