Some people rev their engines because they want to race. Some people, such as those on motorcycles, do it to get people's attention. Others do it so that their vehicle doesn't stall out. Still others, owners of older vehicles, believe that it is nescessary for proper engine temps. Then, there are those that do it just for the coolness factor.

Reving your engine at a stoplight can mean a couple things. It's a common signal of a challenge to race, although, it may just be someone trying to show off the power of their car or motorcycle.

Either because they are trying to keep there car from stalling or because they want to race. Kids like to "challenge" people to race by revving up there engines. However this is not that good for the engines.

They are probably showing off, trying to speed away quickly, or keep their vehicle from stalling. Revving your engine from at a stop is bad for your fuel economy and engine.
