It is most likely the way you are sleeping. If you sleep a certain way most nights then you are probably compressing your nerves. If you would like to see if this is the cause you could sleep a different way and see if the issue is solved in the morning.

After watching my son go through complete Kidney Failure I have learned that right flank pain often means kidney trouble I would highly suggest seeing a doctor and discussing the pain in depth with him. Dialysis is not something you want to face as my son does now 3 times a week 3 hours a day for life.

The most common explanations for right flank pain are kidney stones and urinary tract infections. This pain could be also be the result of an injury.

This pain is probably associated with arthritis. Arthritis is usually worse in the morning when the muscles are not yet stretched. Try using pain relievers as well as a morning stretching routine.
