If the upper right side of your chest hurts when you take a deep breath, it very well could be a partially collapsed lung. It could be spontaneous pneumothorax. I would go to the emergency room.

Seek medical attention! This pain could be due to an injury to the lungs or surrounding tissues, an upper respiratory infection or worse an infection that has traveled.

Only a doctor can tell for sure but one thought is Pleurisy. This is cause by an inflammation of the membrane or pleura that covers the lungs. Pleurisy is usually brought on by a viral infection. The best idea is to visit your doctor for tests.

There is a chance you could have done something popped or pulled one of your ribs out of alignment. This can be very painful, but not always noticed unless doing things like deep breathing, running, or jumping jacks. A good chiropractor can usually get it put back into proper alignment.

This is likely a intercostal muscle strain, or you have altered mobility in a rib on the right side. I recommend you see a chiropractor or PT to address this.

You could have a pulled chest muscle or a "plural rub" where the lining around the lung is inflammed and rubs against the lung when you breath. See your doctor.

You may have pulled or knotted muscles. If it is getting worse, see a doctor or go to a chiropractor to get it looked at. You will probably be okay but you don't want to keep experiencing this much pain.
