Why did World War One start?

How did all the countries get in to it?

World War One was caused when the murder of Archduke Franz Ferdinand triggered a two rival military alliances to fight. The alliance of Russia, France and Britain was thrust into war when Russia decided to defend Serbia from the Archduke's Austria Hungarian Empire. Then German and Italy backed ally Austria.

To make a long explanation short it was based on alliances forged between countries and nationalism spreading through Europe, thus countries were itching for a fight.

World War One started because of the assination of Archduke Ferdinand by the terrorists in 1914. All the countries got involved because they were allied with either side.
