Why did they cancel the "24" show?

24 wasn't cancelled. This was a judiciously planned decision for all the excellent actors to finish an incredible story line. The writers and actors worked together to make a well thought out story, and finish it in keeping with how they wanted to present it, before it became stale.

The show had dipped in ratings before it's final season. The producers of the show realized that they had run out of new ideas for a 24 hour show.
