Why did Chris Brown hit Rihanna?

He was texting an ex-girlfriend and Rihanna discovered it. When she questioned him about it, he got extremely angry at her. When she didn't drop it, he started hitting her.

He hit Rihanna because he has an abusive personality. They were arguing and he felt like the only way that he could control the situation was to hit her. People like this abuse their loved ones for no reason and there was nothing that Rihanna did to cause him to treat her this way.
