Answer by  Huntress (1935)

Farmer markets are very popular for several reasons. Many go to them because the quality and price of the produce is much better than at the grocery store. Also, because fears of produce being tainted with E. coli has risen over the last few years many shoppers have now opted to buy locally at a market for safety reasons.

Farmer's markets have grown in popularity as more people try to eat organically and from local vendors. Between the news about global warming, pesticides, and local economies suffering, many people are attempting to support local farmers while buying food that is "safe. " As word has spread about the availability of fresh produce, more people have jumped on the bandwagon.

Farmer's markets are trendy in that they allow you to buy local food, i. e. locavore or low travel food per environmentalism. They also help the local economy instead of the international one.
