Who was the model for the "Weeping Woman" by Picasso?

The model for Picasso's painting, "Weeping Woman" was named Dora Maar. Picasso and she were lovers. He chose her face because he felt that she was, he was quoted as saying, "always weeping". Picasso painted it in 1937, in response to the bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War. Dora Maar was a photographer, and a painter and poet.

The model was a photographer by the name of Dora Maar. She was Picasso's mistress from 1936 to 1944. They met in 1936. Picasso painted many versions of the Weeping Woman. He considered it an image of universal suffering. Maar was the only photographer allowed to photograph the stages of Picasso's famous painting, "Geurnica."
