We don't yet have strong enough telescopes to see all the galaxies in the universe, but astronomers have discovered several million of them so far. The largest galaxy currently known is IC 1011, in the Abell 2029 cluster, 60 times larger than the Milky Way and about a billion light-years away.

M 87 is the largest galaxie in our backyard but IC 1011 is the biggest found so far!
