Which is correct, waiting in line or waiting on line?

Answer by  kalyanganjam (31)

waiting in line is correct. for eg., I am waiting in line to buy movie tickets. waiting on line is not a correct semantically incorrect. Although "waiting online" (without space between on & line) might make a meaningful sentence. "waiting online" means Waiting for some on over the internet.

If you are standing in a line at a store or bank, you are waiting in line. If you are on the internet and waiting for something specific, you are waiting online. Waiting in line would be the most commonly used phrasing and the generally more correct.
