Mace is the outer coating of nutmeg and has a similar taste, but a little more peppery. It can be used both in desserts and in savory dishes. It would be an excellent addition to a gingerbread cookie recipe, or added to the rub for a roast.

Grows in a tropical evergreen tree which also produces nutmeg. Can be a substitute for nutmeg - mace has a flavor of pepper and cinnamon
