where does it come from

Where did the "pork chops and applesauce" thing come from?

People say it, but I don't know what it means.

Its been around since the early 1700's atleast. It was mentioned in a cook book in the 1800's. Its a pairing choice. The same way you would always pair Mashed Potatoes with Gravy, You pair pork and Applesauce back in those days. The Tastes certainly do go well together! Thanks

Hannah Glasse, an 18th century English cook book author, instructs her readers to serve roast pork with "some good apple-sauce." This is to give sweetness to the fatty taste of 18th century version of pork. The pairing of lamb and mint sauce/jelly follows the same principle. Mixing the foods to come to a balance.
