The job market is quite tight right now. If you have a degree or specific skills, you should apply to companies in your field, and make sure to follow up with calls. If you are "unskilled," temp agencies can often provide lucrative day labor gigs, which can also be valuable experience. Telemarketing is also quite lucrative, but stressful.

You can make a lot of money at any job where you can accept tips. Waitressing is a huge one. You will have a hard time being successful at a waitressing job if you can't multi-task though. You could also try bartending, delivering pizzas, or being a valet. If you know what you are doing you can make a lot.

It depends on what kind of degree and experience you have, and in what industry you've been working. If it's a dying industry, go back to school.
